SS Innovations International, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida- based medtech firm with offices in Gurgaon, India marked a milestone with its SSi Mantra 3 robotic surgery system being used for the first time in the Western Hemisphere to perform cardiac surgery.
On June 8, Dr. Juan Zuniga at Interhospital in Guayaquil, Ecuador, successfully conducted a robotic atrial septal defect closure using the system.

Dr. Zuniga commended the technology for its ease of use, precision, and effectiveness, noting that the minimally invasive nature of the procedure led to reduced bleeding, faster recovery, and highly accurate suturing. Interhospital was the first in South America to adopt the SSi Mantra 3, and its surgeons have since used it for various procedures.
SS Innovations recently gained traction, with its stock uplisted to Nasdaq and regulatory approvals secured in several countries including India, Nepal, and Ecuador. While the system is not yet FDA-approved, the company aims to obtain both U.S. FDA and CE mark certifications.
