Packaged Foods

India exports a wide range of ready-to-eat foods and edible preparations to many countries.

Edible preparations include frozen food, shelf-stable food, and juices of exotic fruits. Products such as coffee concentrates, soups, condiments, and seasonings fall into this category. Exporting these commodities is a regulated process, as every country has laws and regulations governing the import and export of food products.

Indian Industry

Due to a favorable climate and a booming agricultural sector, India is the world’s largest producer of many food products such as spices, milk, and pulses (lentils). India is both the top consumer and exporter of spices in the world.

India’s Ministry of Food Processing Industries is making efforts to encourage investments across the value chain. They provide support to indigenous manufacturers to increase their ability to compete globally in terms of output volume, productivity, value addition, and connections to the global value chain.

U.S market

The USA is the largest importer of Edible Preparations in the world. The United States imports spices, frozen pizza, canned soups, and snack bars, various beverages such as coffee, soda, and energy drinks.

Regulatory framework

In both the importing and exporting of food goods, the World Trade Organization has guidelines to ensure the standard of food products is met.

Products coming from India also follow a specific set of regulations set forth by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. Items imported into the United States must also meet applicable American standards for safety, packaging. labeling and quality.
