“The sales of ice cream doubled between 2007 and 2012, and are expected to do so again in the five years ending 2017, reaching $1.1 billion. The ice cream industry is seeing double-digit growth year-on-year,” says Aziz Hafizi, president of Pastonji Brand and Holding Private Ltd., a company that manufactures Creambell Ice Cream.

Several factors have affected this sector’s growth. These include increasing disposable incomes; changing lifestyles (wherein more people are consuming on-the-go food at quick service restaurants); improvements in roads, electricity and infrastructure, and an increasing preference towards consuming branded products, reports FnB News.
Microbiological standards of the Food Safety and Standards Association of India are getting more robust says Subhasis Basu, who heads Mother Dairy’s business, and “on the regulatory front, a number of ice cream brands have taken sufficient time to comply with the food safety regulations,” he adds.
