The U.S. trade delegation in India has extended its stay beyond the initial June 5-6 schedule, signaling progress in negotiations ahead of the July deadline for implementing reciprocal tariffs. Officials estimate that most key issues may be finalized within a week.
While the tariffs face legal challenges in Washington, both nations are working toward a phased trade deal with an early agreement targeted for July.

Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal described his recent discussions with U.S. counterpart Howard Lutnick as “constructive,” with Lutnick expressing optimism about the deal’s prospects. India was among the first countries to initiate negotiations to counteract tariffs set to take effect on July 9. Official responses from both governments remain pending.
