FIS reports that authorities in India’s eastern state of Odisha (formerly known as Orissa) have partnered with the international organization WorldFish to improve the quality of fish seeds, good aquaculture practices through a number of actions like the formation of fish farm clusters in the rim of Lake Chilika and providing international markets for Odisha fish. The project will also ensure that the production of tilapia will double which in turn will increase local consumption as well as exports.
This project forms part of the state government’s new fishery policy intended to increase fish exports, which at present generate $360 million, to $1.5 billion by 2020.
