French engine maker Safran, announced plans to invest $150 million in a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in India.
On July 5, during a visit to New Delhi, CEO of Safran Group Olivier Andries, told India’s Minister for Defense, Rajnath Singh, that the company plans to open a maintenance station at Hyderabad. He added that the facility will work on the LEAP-1A and -1B engines, which equip the A320neo and 737 MAX family respectively, and will serve both Indian and foreign airlines.

The company has long-term plans to co-develop and co-produce advanced jet engines and is also willing to transfer technology under the existing Government of India’s policy.
It will launch several subsidiaries in the subcontinent: Safran Aircraft Engines, and Safran Electrical & Power India in Hyderabad, and Safran-HAL Aircraft Engines, in Bangalore.
The joint venture between Safran Electrical & Power India Pvt. Ltd., will produce harnesses for civil and fighter jets. Safran-HAL Aircraft Engines, will produce rigid piping for aircraft engines including helicopter engines.
