India’s Reliance Industries subsidiary company Reliance Retail has entered into a licensing deal with the Walt Disney Company. Under the deal, Reliance will retail Disney products featuring the brand’s popular characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck under its private label.
Reliance Retail will launch toys, packaged foods such as biscuits and breakfast cereals, clothes, personal electronics, and back-to-school items such as lunch boxes, school bags, and stationery items. “This is a long-term partnership and Reliance wants to garner a larger share in children’s products, even in smaller towns. The company will launch across formats, but the larger play will be in the fashion sector, the grocery business, and Hamleys toy stores which it operates in the country, an executive from the company said.
