Berkshire, U.K.-based Reckitt Benckiser, that specializes in health and home hygiene products, is keen to expand its consumer health business in India through acquisitions, said Rakesh Kapoor, the company’s CEO.
The consumer healthcare market in India was worth close to $4 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach $5 billion by 2020. With the rising purchasing power and awareness of Indian consumers, the preventive health and wellness market is expected to increase in India and several companies are seriously eyeing this space for future growth.
Reckitt Benckiser wants to expand its footprint in the infant food and child nutrition sector, and will make available Mead Johnson‘s (a company it acquired in 2017) Enfa family of brands available to consumers directly. Kapoor is clear that, in the quest to grow the health food business in India, the company will not acquire a company or a brand at any cost. “We remain disciplined and have the courage to walk away from a transaction,” says Kapoor. “We don’t want to transact with a mind-set of scarcity, which can lead you to overpay.”
