The Indian subsidiary of French spirits company Pernod Ricard has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of the western state of Maharashtra to set up a malt spirit distillery in the city of Nagpur.
The distillery is expected to take three years to complete and will produce Pernod Ricard’s brands, such as its Longitude77 range. Once complete, the distillery will be one of the largest in India, capable of producing 16,000 gallons of malt spirit a day.

Pernod Ricard India CEO Jean Touboul said, “This initiative is in continuation of our dedicated efforts to make and innovate in India and we are confident that it will elevate India’s standing on the global map, as a key player in the production of high-quality malt.”
The company claimed that the distillery will require up to 50,000 tons of barley a year, which Pernod Ricard plans to procure from local farmers.
The company has 24 facilities in India. Most are fully owned by the group, while some are joint ventures with local companies.
