Mercedes-Maybach, makers of some of the most luxurious cars in the world, has launched the S600 Guard in India for $1.6 million. The car is designed for chief dignitaries around the world and it has a VR10 safety rating. This means it is certified to protect against hardened steel-core bullets fired from assault rifles at the bodywork and windows, rocket-propelled grenades, explosives, fires and even heavy sniper firing.
This is the first time the Ballistics Authority in Ulm, Germany, has certified an armored passenger car to this standard. An ERV 2010 rating (Explosive Resistant Vehicles) means the car can breeze through a 33 pound TNT explosion from as close as 13 feet from the vehicle.
The inner windows and the car’s under body come with a polycarbonate coating that protects the vehicle from explosive devices. In case of a gas attack, the S600 Guard has its own fresh air system.
Powering the Maybach S600 Guard is a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo petrol engine that produces a 523bhp of power and 830Nm of torque. The car can do a 0-62 m/h sprint in 7.9sec and on to an electronically limited top speed of 120m/h, reports Financial Express.
