India's Vistara Grows, Increases Boeing, Airbus Jets

Looking to expand its fleet in India’s booming aviation sector, Gurugram headquartered Vistara ordered six Boeing 787 jets and thirteen Airbus SE A320neos valued at $3.1 billion.

“India’s position as the world’s fastest growing domestic aviation market and its impressive growth in air passenger traffic that has more than doubled over the last decade makes us confident of our aggressive plans for domestic expansion and international foray,” Vistara CEO Leslie Thng said.

Vistara, a joint venture between India’s Tata Sons Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited, will procure an additional thirty-seven A320neos from leasing companies and also had purchase rights over four more 787-9s and options over seven more A320neos. The purchased and leased Airbus jets, fitted with CFM International LEAP engines, will be delivered between 2019 and 2023. The Boeing jets, powered by GE engines, will be used for medium and long-haul flights. These are expected in 2020 and 2021.
