According to the details of its growth plan through 2022 — More Roads to Harley-Davidson — Milwaukee, WI-based motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson will develop a “more accessible, small-displacement motorcycle” for India and other Asian markets.
President and CEO Matt Levatich said the company will partner with an unnamed Indian manufacturer to build “a small displacement motorcycle bridge” to Harley-Davidson, as part of a global effort to “create interest in our brand sooner” among consumers who have found traditional Harley motorcycles unaffordable, unapproachable, or unsuited to dense city environments.”
This new product and broader distribution is intended to fuel Harley-Davidson’s customer access and growth in India, one of the largest, fastest growing markets in the world, and other Asia markets, the company said. The growth plan also envisages new product launches along with broadening access to its offerings, and improving dealers’ financial strength.
