India's Telecom Commission Approves Telecom Policy 2018

India’s Telecom Commission has approved the National Digital Communications Policy – 2018 recommended by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

Telecom policy 2018 targets for 2022:

# $100 billion investment in Indian telecom sector
# Universal broadband coverage at 50 Mbps to every citizen
# 1 Gbps connectivity to all Gram Panchayats (village governance bodies) of India by 2020 and 10 Gbps by 2022
# 100 Mbps broadband on demand to all key development institutions including educational institutions
# Fixed line broadband access to 50% of households
# Unique mobile subscriber density of 55 by 2020 and 65 by 2022
5 million public Wi-Fi Hotspots by 2020 and 10 million by 2022
# Connectivity to all uncovered areas

These recommendations will be submitted to the federal government for approval.
