India’s Tea Exports Rise 14% This Year

Exports of tea from India reached 309 million pounds in the first eight months of the 2022 calendar year, according to India’s Tea Board data. This was an increase of 14.8% over the previous fiscal.

India’s tea exports for January to August 2022 was $470 million compared to $410 million during the same time last year.

Sources in the industry said that tea exports did not pick up substantially due to “shipping and container costs which skyrocketed due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.”

The Commonwealth of Independent States or CIS countries, which include Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, continued to be the biggest consumers of Indian tea. UAE was the second-largest importer.
