India’s Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully placed its latest 2722 pound remote sensing satellite RESOURCESAT-2A into a 508 miles polar sun synchronous orbit. The satellite was placed aboard ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C36.
Intended for resource monitoring for the next five years, the satellite carries a high resolution Linear Imaging Self Scanner (LISS-4), a medium resolution LISS-3 camera and an advanced wide field sensor camera that operates in various bands. It is also equipped with two solid state recorders with a capacity of 200 Giga Bits each to store images taken by its cameras which could be read out later to ground stations, reports Zee News.
ISRO says that between 1994-2016, the PSLV has successfully launched 122 satellites, of which 79 were from various countries and 43 were from India.
