Bangalore-based Renalyx Health Systems has developed an end-to-end renal solution that screens chronic kidney disease, has an in-built renal information management system, and offers a connected dialysis machine.
Sixty to seventy million people in India suffer from chronic kidney disease caused by diabetes and/or hypertension. Patients in the final stage, or end stage renal disease, need dialysis or a kidney transplant. Renalyx’s heath system offers early detection of kidney disease, a program for delaying patient’s progression from Stage-1 to Stage-4, and a program for treating Stage 5 or end stage renal disease. The system is currently undergoing clinical trials.
Dialysis machines are currently imported from Germany, Sweden and China at a cost of $15,000-$17,000 each. One dialysis session costs between $40 and $60. The Renalyx machine is likely to be priced at $6,000 and may reduce the cost of dialysis to $15, according to the company.
