India Ships First Consignment of Plant-Based Meat to U.S.

India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) announced that GREENEST, a plant protein food brand, shipped India’s first plant-based meat consignment to California from Nadiad, a city in the western state of Gujarat.

India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry said that the 11,000 pounds consignment consisted of mini samosas, hot and spicy strips, spring rolls, nuggets, and grilled patty, among other products.
“APEDA has planned to promote a variety of vegan foods products, including pancake, snacks, cheese, and more to Australia, Israel, New Zealand among other countries in the coming months,” the ministry added.
“This is just the beginning; we hope that India will become a hub for the growing global demand for plant-based vegan products,” said the company.
Due to its rich fiber and lower cholesterol levels, vegan food products are becoming an alternative choice in diets across the globe.
