India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy says that between the months of April and December 2014 India has connected to the grid 2,100 MW of renewable power capacity. Most of the newly-installed capacity comes from wind farms. SeeNews reports that India has also installed 431 MW of grid-connected solar power facilities during the first nine months of the financial year and needs an additional 669 MW to achieve its annual goal for the fiscal year ending on March 31. India’s on-grid solar capacity has now surpassed 3,000 MW. Small-hydro, bagasse co-generation and waste-to-power plants are responsible for 340 MW of green power capacity added in April-December.
As for newly-installed off-grid renewable power stations, India installed 105 MW in the period under review. This compares with a target of 163 MW for the full fiscal year ending on March 31.
