In India, Starbucks Localizes, Aims to Enter Tier-II Cities

Tata Starbucks Private Ltd., the equal joint venture between Seattle, Washington-based Starbucks Coffee Company and India’s Tata Global Beverages Ltd., will focus on regional culinary innovations and expanding its market to tier-II cities of India.

Since starting operations in the Indian market in October 2012, it has a total of 113 stores in the metros of Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Delhi NCR.

The company’s most recent outlet was inaugurated in Kolkata where two new desserts using the region’s signature ingredient chena (casein) were introduced. On offer is chomchom tiramisu and rosomalai mousse. This is the first time that the company has included a regional culinary innovation in its menu.
