According to The Economic Times, foreign multi-national companies operating in India are creating networks for high-potential women executives as well as programs to nurture women within the organization for leadership positions. Companies want to retain women leaders, particularly at the mid-career level. According to the article women dropping out during mid-career in India not only end a promising career but also waste the investment companies put into women. As a result, it is important from an organizational point of view to have a support system that will retain women.
Diageo India, the world’s largest spirits company, started a global women’s network called the Spirited Women’s Network. This group aims to empower women in the workforce, family, and in the community. It encourages a variety of management styles and behaviors as well as develops solutions to women’s issues. Cadbury India (a unit of Mondelez, a Kraft spinoff) introduced the ‘My Mentor’ program to bring high-potential women to leadership positions. At Coca-Cola India there is a diversity council comprising of men and women that works to bring a more holistic perspective of women’s issues. Coca-Cola has formed several initiatives and efforts to bring more women into the workforce and is now using social media to create a virtual network.
