French fragrance manufacturer Robertet Group agreed to gradually take control of and acquire Sonarome, a major Indian flavor company based in Bangalore. Founded in 1979 by the Gulhati family, Sonarome claims that it is known for its R&D, creative flavor experts, and knowledge of local Indian trends. The company has over 100 employees and relationships with leading food and beverage companies.
Robertet, founded in 1850, is fully integrated in fragrance, flavor, and ingredient creation from source to final product. The company has over 2,200 employees globally across 50 countries and reached over €700 million in turnover in 2022. The company has had a footprint in India since 20 years.

This acquisition of Sonarome is part of Robertet’s growth strategy to expand its flavor offerings for foods and beverages in India and South East Asia. Sonarome had over €15 million in sales in 2022 and a double-digit annual growth for three years.
Robertet CEO Jerome Bruhat said the deal is a milestone in the company’s development in India and Asia. With Robertet’s natural products and new local capacity, combined with Sonarome’s flavor expertise, they aim to become a major player in the Indian market.
Nitesh Gulhati, Chairman and CEO of Sonarome, commented, “We are thrilled to join forces with Robertet, a family-run group that is similar to us.”
This is Robertet’s sixth acquisition in five years, and positions both Robertet and Sonarome to capitalize on their strengths in the high-growth Indian flavor and fragrance market.
