Fox's Star India Acquires ‘Screen’ News Publication

According to a press release, Star India Private Ltd., the broadcast network of 21st Century Fox has entered into an agreement to acquire the Indian Express Group‘s Screen, a weekly movie entertainment publication, for an undisclosed amount.

VCCircle.com reports that as part of the deal, Star India will get exclusive ownership of the Screen brand franchise, including all archival material. The acquisition will also integrate the Screen Awards property with Star India, besides adding a consumer brand to the network’s digital business.

“The Screen acquisition will yield huge benefits for Star India and for Hotstar, our digital platform,” Star India’s CEO Uday Shankar said in the statement.

Hotstar, launched on 1 February, is a mobile application that offers more than 35,000 hours of content in seven languages, offering viewers a big library of movies, television shows and live sports events.
