Ericsson, Sweden’s multinational networking and telecommunications company headquartered in Stockholm, inaugurated a Center of Excellence and Innovation Lab for 5G at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Borje Ekholm, president and CEO of Ericsson attended the launch. Telecom chipset makers Qualcomm and Intel will support the development of 5G devices and smartphones in India.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, is in the process of finalizing spectrum for 5G mobile technology, and telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone India and Reliance Jio will seek 5G opportunities in India in 2020 and later.

Ericsson said 5G-enabled digitization revenue potential in India will be $27.3 billion by 2026. Indian operators can generate additional revenue of $13 billion or half of the stated potential if they take up roles beyond being connectivity and infrastructure providers to become service enablers and service creators.
