Physician turned politician, sixty-three-year-old Dr. Jitendra Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2012 where he was a national executive member, and the chief spokesperson for India’s northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2014 he contested his maiden election from Jammu and Kashmir and won. Prime Minister Modi appointed him as junior minister with independent charge for Development of North Eastern Region, as well as junior minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space.

Dr. Singh gained popularity not only in his constituency but other parts of the state and the country due to his developmental agenda and popular reforms. He has been credited for playing a key role in establishing north India’s first Space Technology Research Center within the campus of Central University of Jammu, launching Radio Station, among other projects in the county. During his tenure as the Minister for Personnel, Singh played a crucial role leading to the appointment of the country’s first anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.
In Modi’s second term in office, Dr. Jitendra Singh has the very same portfolio as before. His will continue to handle critically important matters related to bureaucracy, governance, and the development of the North-Eastern Region of India which is a priority for Modi’s government.
