Atlanta, GA-based Coca-Cola has entered into discussions with Bangalore, India headquartered Café Coffee Day, which is India’s largest coffee house chain, to acquire a significant ownership percentage in the company. Looking to combat changing consumer tastes, Coca-Cola is eyeing the growing coffee market in India to expand its product offerings.
Owned by Coffee Day Enterprises, Cafe Coffee Day operates 1,752 coffee shops and is the largest chain of coffee shops in the country. The company competes with Starbucks, Costa Coffee, and Barista. Facing increased competition from popular tea and coffee shops, a partnership with Coca-Cola will help Café Coffee Day to increase its food and beverage offerings.
