Canada and India have formally agreed to rebuild and strengthen their diplomatic relationship, two years after a rupture. During a high-level meeting in New Delhi, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to establish a new roadmap for cooperation.

Key priorities include:
- Launching ministerial-level talks on trade and investment
- Collaborating in agriculture, science and technology, civil nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and energy
- Addressing transnational crime, repression, and reinforcing the rules-based international order
The joint statement emphasized the importance of a resilient partnership amid global economic and geopolitical instability. Both nations have reinstated their high commissioners, with Christopher Cooter appointed as Canada’s envoy to India. India’s law enforcement ministry is now actively collaborating with Canadian authorities, signaling a renewed commitment to tactical and economic alignment.
