Biden, Modi to Attend Quad Meeting

Biden, Modi to Attend Quad Meeting

On March 12, President Joe Biden will join Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the  Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison and the Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga,  collectively referred to as the “Quad” in a virtual meeting.  The stated purpose of the  Quadrilateral Security Dialogue is to keep the peace in the “Indo-Pacific” region.  Previous Quad meetings have involved the Secretary of State and India’s Foreign Minister. This is one of the first multilateral meetings involving President Biden and comes on the heels of the announcement that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will travel to India.

India’s Foreign Ministry says “The Summit will provide an opportunity to exchange views on contemporary challenges such as resilient supply chains, emerging and critical technologies, maritime security, and climate change. The Leaders will discuss ongoing efforts to combat Covid-19 pandemic and explore opportunities for collaboration in ensuring safe, equitable and affordable vaccines in the Indo-Pacific region.” See below to hear what the White House put out earlier today.
