Adani Group sets Ambitious Nuclear Target as it Launches Civil Nuclear Sector

Adani Group is positioning itself to become a  leading private-sector nuclear power developer, outlining plans to build up to 10 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity by 2035. The move follows India’s decision to open its civil nuclear sector to private and foreign investment as part of a broader push toward clean, reliable, round‑the‑clock energy.

At the company’s annual meeting, Chairman Gautam Adani said ,“Our entry into nuclear energy through Adani Atomic Energy is another confident step toward securing India’s long-term energy future,

“With land identified and a 10 GW targeted capacity by 2035, we are positioning ourselves early to serve the growing national demand for clean, round-the-clock power,”

Adani said the conglomerate’s data center business is on track to build 3 GW of ‌capacity by 2030. The group is also ramping up its piped natural gas ‌projects to meet India’s rising demand for gas, since India’s gas supplies have been disrupted due to global shipping constraints.

The group aims to move quickly as India targets a scale‑up: from roughly 8.8 GW of nuclear capacity today to 100 GW by 2047, a build‑out that government panels estimate could require $204 billion in cumulative capital.

Adani is also in discussions with officials in Uttar Pradesh on a public‑private partnership to develop small modular reactors (SMRs) — including a proposal for eight 200‑MW units.

On another note, the nuclear opening is drawing interest from other major Indian conglomerates as well. Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, is reportedly evaluating opportunities in the sector as India seeks both domestic and international partners to accelerate nuclear deployment.
