The India subsidiary of the world’s largest orthopedic company is growing rapidly based on the recent launch of knee replacement products. Quoted in the BusinessLine newspaper, Dr. Ashok Rajgopal, Chairman, Medanta Bone & Joint Institute and past president of the Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons, explained a total of 100,000 knee replacement were carried out last year in India. It is expected that the number will grow by at least 18 percent this year.
Zimme India which recently introduced Persona — its new knew replacement system — said the market for knee replacement in India is exploding. “India is a key growth market. We are growing at CAGR of 26 per cent. We expect that by the end of this calendar year we should be around Rs. 200 crore in terms of revenue and by March 2015, we expect revenues to be Rs. 250 crore,” Sanjay Banerjee, Regional Managing Director, South Asia, Zimmer.
