ZEISS, QMS Medical, to Screen for Diabetic Retinopathy in India

ZEISS, QMS Medical, to Screen for Diabetic Retinopathy in India

Zeiss Medical Technology India, a subsidiary of Carl Zeiss Meditec of Germany, announced a strategic arrangement with QMS Medical Ltd., based in Mumbai to screen diabetic patients for Diabetic Retinopathy, the leading cause of preventable vision loss.

Diabetic retinopathy occurs when blood vessels in the retina change. This condition slowly affects a patient’s eyesight without any visible symptoms or changes in the vision in early stages. But as it progresses, it generally leads to vision loss which, in many cases, cannot be reversed. Remote screening of diabetic retinopathy can help in early detection, even before there are any noticeable changes in vision.

QMS will use Zeiss’ VISUSCOUT 100, a handheld fundus camera for  detecting and monitoring retinal disorders.
