Tamil Nadu state attracts over $2 billion in FDI

India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu has signed understandings with a number of European and Chinese companies that are expected to create and support over 40,000 jobs in the state. Tamil Nadu is home to a vibrant automotive, auto parts and electronics sector.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicle may be the largest new investor .  It had proposed brownfield expansion at the  company’s Oragadam facility near Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Another  major auto project will be by BYD India, subsidiary of the Chinese electric vehicle maker.

In the electronics business, Finland-based Salcomp will create 10,000 jobs to restart the erstwhile  Nokia facility at Sriperumbudur. And Japan’s Polymatech Electronics intends  to manufacture semiconductor chips.

No American companies were mentioned in the announcement.
