Seeking growth outside of the slowing U.S. market, the Yum! Brands Inc., which operates Pizza Hut, KFC ,and Taco Bell is planning to launch 600 Taco Bell restaurants in India over the next ten years in partnership with master franchisee Burman Hospitality. Currently there are 35 locations of Taco Bell across the country.
Liz Williams, president of Taco Bell International, said, “India is the perfect intersection of a youthful, vibrant, diverse culture that fits really well with the Taco Bell brand.”
Locations in India offer new items such as taco shells made out of hash brown potatoes, and cater to local tastes with products like paneer (soft, fresh cheese) and tikka masala (marinated pieces of paneer or chicken) burritos. “We see so much opportunity in India, as it is still a largely untapped market for Taco Bell,” Ankush Tuli, managing director for Taco Bell APAC, said.
