Ahead of 5G services rollout in India, Swiss optical fiber major Reichle & De-Massari (R&M) will scale up its R&D and manufacturing activities in India. The company has already set up manufacturing operations in Bangalore to supply fiber to telecom carriers and data centers worldwide.

“India is the third-largest market for R&M globally and we have made significant investments. We are also planning to increase our sales and services operations by increasing partners across the country,” chairman Hans Hess said. The company plans to double headcount over the next two years.
India’s federal government, in its effort to connect India digitally, aims to enhance the fiber footprint five-fold by 2022. To achieve this goal, the Department of Telecommunications will set up an autonomous agency called the National Fiber Authority, as outlined in the National Digital Communications Policy 2018.
