The CEO of high-end Italian suitmaker Canali says that India is among its top ten markets globally. So far in 2013, the luxury clothing maker has seen 14% growth in sales over last year.
The company is e opening a store in Kolkata and “As soon as some new locations will arise, we will be glad to be there.” according to Stefano Canali, the third generation heir and general manager of the privately held company. “We are a completely made-in-Italy brand. There is nothing wrong with made-in-India, but it is our strategy to be 100% Italian. The company has two stores each in the Delhi-NCR and Chennai areas; it also has stores in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
What this means
India is a good market for products purchased by the highest economic echelons of global society. Import duties and high prices do not discourage this segment if the brand value is right.
