Smartphone suppliers in India shipped 46.6 million units in the most recent quarter, an increase of 9.3 percent from the previous quarter. The average selling price is much lower than in the West, just $159 and top brands are all Asian companies, Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Realme and Oppo. However. the iPhone sales are rising fast and numerous American apps are popular including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp.
The Low-end price segment of $200 accounted for 80 percent of the India smartphone market. While the mid-range segment of $200-$500 accounted for 18.9 percent.The fastest growing segment was $300-500 with double the shipments as key models like the OnePlus 7, Redmi K20 Pro and vivo V15 Pro had good traction. $200-300 was the second fastest growing segment with 47.8 percent growth with strong shipments of the Galaxy A50, Redmi Note 7 Pro and vivo Z1 Pro. Apple has dominated the premium ($500+) segment with a market share of 51.3 percent, on the back of affordability offers and price drops on previous generation models like the iPhone XR, iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 (128GB), along with the newly launched iPhone 11 and Pro series. India still has a market for non-smart or feature phones. The feature phone market, accounting for 43 percent of total mobile phone shipments, dropped 17.5 percent to 35.6 million units.
