Ahoy Systems will use Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology in its smart street-lighting products. “Smart cities leverage our smart lights to reduce their energy footprint and cut down on maintenance costs,” said Neel Maharaj, CEO at Ahoy Systems. “Semtech’s LoRa Technology provides the ideal IoT platform for cities to drastically reduce their electricity costs without compromising infrastructure quality and community services.”
LoRa-enabled street lights offer “ultra-low” electricity consumption that pays for itself in less than four years, important as electricity consumption by street lights constitutes a huge portion of an average city’s budget. The smart street lamps automatically dim according to programmable schedules, detect moonlight and dim accordingly, and can send automated messages to managers upon malfunction detection.
