A four-day event beginning on July 12 to mark the first anniversary of ‘Skill India‘, a program aimed at honing the skills of youth so that they become employable, is expected to be held at the Indian Institute of Technology, in Kanpur, where a number of events like debates and seminars have been planned. An exhibition, in which a number of national and international companies will take part, will also be held at the institute, report both Times of India and The Indian Express.
On July 15 Prime Minister Modi is most likely to land at the airstrip in IIT-Kanpur. He may inaugurate an auditorium there, as also address the students competing to qualify for the World Skills competition scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi.
According to India Today, IIT Kanpur stood first among the top 25 engineering colleges for 2016. Since its inception in 1959, IIT Kanpur has distinguished itself as a pioneer in science-based engineering education in India, owing to a decade-long fruitful collaboration with a consortium of universities in the U.S. Director Indranil Manna, himself an alumni, says, “IIT Kanpur was one of the pioneers in introducing the computer science and material science disciplines in India.”
