Purchase, Harrison, NY-based food and beverage major PepsiCo, commissioned its largest greenfield foods plant in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Built at a cost of $130 million the foods plant marks Pepsico’s largest single manufacturing investment in India
The facility is spread across 29 acres in the town of Kosi Kalan, and will cater to the demand of the company’s Lays potato chips business. PepsiCo India intends to source 1,50,000 tonnes of potatoes annually from over 5,000 local farmers. Additionally, it will ensure that at least 30% of its employees are women.
This factory is the company’s first ‘Make and Move’ model, where the manufactured products are directly sold to distributors from the origin plant, as opposed to dispatching finished goods to a mother warehouse managed by a third party. The company will also commission a cold storage warehouse for an improved supply chain in the state.
