San Francisco-based orthodontic startup OrthoFX has raised $13 million led by SignalFire, in association with Unusual Ventures, ShangBay Capital and Kairos Ventures. Co-founded by Invisalign’s Global Head of Product Management and Innovation Ren Menon, the startup also unveiled a suite of clear aligner technologies, coupled with a doctor-friendly financial model.
The startup plans to use the funding for R&D and building a suite of hybrid digital and physical orthodontic services. A significant portion of the funding will be deployed in Kerala to set up a development center at the Kochi Infopark. OrthoFX believes that the southern Indian state of Kerala has the potential to emerge as a major global medical devices hub and is preparing itself to benefit from that. “We expect to be a 100 member team by 2021, and we believe that the local talent pool has the right attributes to fulfill this need”, said Abhilash Jayapal, Head – OrthoFX India.
