Shenzhen, China-headquartered smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is set to establish an R&D center in India this year, as well as establish its global hub (outside China) in the country. The second global headquarters in India will help the company “decentralize the operations.” The Chinese company first entered the Indian market in 2014.
“The R&D center will be set up either in Hyderabad or Bangalore by the year-end,” said Vikas Agarwal, general manager, OnePlus India. The center will employ fifty employees to localize products for the Indian market.
Per a report by Counterpoint Research, OnePlus became the fastest growing smartphone vendor in the premium segment in India with over 192 percent growth achieved in the first quarter of 2018. The company’s OnePlus 5T debuted as the best-selling model with a 25 percent share of the top premium models of the quarter, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S9+ at 17 percent and Galaxy S9 at 12 percent.
