OMRON Healthcare, a Japanese company based in Kyoto, announced plans to establish a new manufacturing factory in Chennai, India. The factory, located at the ORIGINS by Mahindra industrial cluster, will begin production of blood pressure monitors in March 2025. This strategic move aims to accelerate the penetration of blood pressure monitoring devices in the rapidly growing Indian market.
India’s economy is expected to maintain an annual growth rate of around 6% until 2030, and its population is projected to reach 1.66 billion by 2050. This significant growth will lead to a rise in the number of patients suffering from lifestyle diseases, such as hypertension, which is a major contributor to cerebro-cardiovascular diseases such as stroke and heart failure. Regular home blood pressure monitoring is crucial for effective hypertension management.
However, the penetration rate of blood pressure monitors in India remains remarkably low, at around 2% according to the company.
OMRON Healthcare’s decision to establish a local manufacturing facility and strengthen its distribution structure is a strategic move to address this challenge. The company aims to make blood pressure monitors more accessible and affordable for the Indian population.
By combining the new manufacturing capabilities with targeted disease education campaigns, OMRON Healthcare intends to provide comprehensive health-related solutions to the people of India. The company is committed to its “Going for ZERO” vision, which aims to eliminate heart attacks and strokes by promoting early detection and effective management of hypertension.
