It is not just President Donald Trump alone who congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his election victory; congratulatory messages have been pouring in from the Vice President, Secretary of State, senior Senators, Governors of U.S. states, business leaders and senior American thinkers and academicians.
Among U.S. Senators and Congressmen who sent congratulatory messages include Senator Chris Coons, Mark Warner (co-chair of the Senate India Caucus), Senator Kevin Thomas, Senator John Cornyn, Congressmen George Holding, Troy Balderson, Joaquin Castro, Scott Perry, Brad Sherman, Brian Fitzpatrick, Pete Olson, Ted Yoho, Jim Banks, Tom Suozzi, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Steny Hoyer, Ami Bera and Ro Khanna.
Kay Coles James, president of The Heritage Foundation — one of largest US think-tanks — tweeted, “Congratulations to Indian Prime Minister @narendramodion on his re-election and to 600 million Indian citizens who voted in the largest democratic exercise in history at a time when authoritarianism is on the march.” Mark Dubowitz, CEO, The Foundation of Defense of Democracies, tweeted, “Huge victory for @narendramodi in the Indian elections. Here’s to an even stronger U.S.-India relationship, which has deep bipartisan support here, and multiparty support over there. बधाई हो” Ambassador Nicholas Burns, Professor, Harvard Kennedy School, wrote, “A major victory for PM Modi and the BJP in #India. The Trump administration now has an opportunity to expand our military and economic partnership with Delhi, particularly to limit China’s ambitions in the Indo-Pacific.” Peter Lavoy, Senior Advisor, Exxon Mobil Corporation, tweeted, “Shabash [Well Done] India! We are witnessing a new chapter in world’s greatest display of democracy, where hundreds of millions of Indian citizens reaffirmed their faith in Narendra Modi to raise Indian prosperity, security and dignity. We @exxonmobil are excited to be part of this journey!”
