Mercedes rolls out first locally manufactured GLC

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz stated it had started local production of its AMG portfolio in India and rolled out its first GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe produced in India priced at $103,000 from its Pune factory. The company now produces 11 models locally in this factory which has an annual installed capacity of 20,000 units, the largest for any luxury carmaker in India.

“It is a significant achievement for us to roll out the first-ever locally produced AMG from India’s largest built luxury car production facility. This reiterates our deep commitment to the Indian market and our ongoing effort to create value for our customers,” Mr. Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said in a statement.

The company is optimistic that AMG’s local production would further increase the popularity of India’s performance brand and cater to the growing demand of enthusiasts for performance motoring, he added.

“In the dynamic Indian luxury car market, the local development of AMG gives us a competitive advantage,” Mr. Schwenk said.

The model comes with a 3-liter V6 bi-turbo engine, which, the luxury carmaker said, produces 390 hp of power, 23 hp more than the previous model.
