India’s largest nuclear power plant is located at Kudankulam near the southern tip of the country. Unit 1 and 2 are already producing 1,000 megawatts each. The construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is doing much of the physical construction for Unit 3 and 4. This last week the company revealed that the Nuclear Power Corporation has asked it to build out Units 5 and 6 as well.
L&T will build the reactor building, reactor auxiliary building, turbine building, diesel generator building and other safety-related structures over a period of five and a half years. The bid is around $200 million dollars, per India Expert estimates.
