Mumbai, India-based engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) won a $124 million contract from state-owned Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL), to supply steam generators and end shields for its 700 MWe Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors.
Commenting on the order, Shailendra Roy, director of Power, Heavy Engineering & Nuclear divisions of L&T, said, “India’s nuclear power program is designed to provide a safe, environmentally clean and economically viable source of electrical energy. As a pioneer equipment supplier to the nuclear power segment, L&T is committed to contributing to the accelerated development of Indian nuclear power program.”

The generators and end shields will be manufactured at L&T’s integrated, manufacturing plant in Hazira, Gujarat, which is one of the largest of its kind in South Asia. To date, the firm has delivered fifty-one steam generators and thirty-six end shields for India’s Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors and Fast Breed Reactors.
