Italian sports car maker Automobili Lamborghini expects sales to rise threefold in India in 2019, a year ahead of its earlier plans, riding on the back of its new super luxury SUV Urus.
With a waiting period of nine months for Urus in 2019, the company is confident of becoming the leader in the super luxury car segment of vehicles priced above S300,000, that includes its peers Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Ferrari among other sports car makers. The Lamborghini Urus is currently priced at $426,000 in India.

“Once we have the full availability of the Urus and complete supply [in 2019], we should be looking at doing close to three-times [sales]. Initially, we were saying that it will take three years to reach there but the market is moving much faster,” said the company’s India head Sharad Agarwal. He added that 70 percent of bookings for Urus are first-time buyers of Lamborghini, and that the model has given the company opportunity to extend its reach to both tier I and II cities in India.
