Singer Katy Perry and British comedian Russell Brand and pop singer were married at Ranthambore National Park, a tiger reserve 60 miles south of the fort city of Jaipur in India’s picturesque Rajasthan state. This follows Elizabeth Hurley’s wedding with Arun Nair in the same state in 2008.
The sounds of traditional Rajasthani music drifted from the dozen specially erected tents across the moonlit Amaan-i-Khas resort. Private security guards, black screens and a cell phone ban have ensured a veil of the highest security has shrouded the wedding from unwanted eyes . Brand arrived on a decorated horse for the wedding, flanked by camels and elephants, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. Other reports claimed that pop star Rihanna played the maid of honor as a priest chanted Hindu hymns around a sacred fire. As the sun set through the early evening, the guests, who are staying at two nearby resorts, arrived in cars with blacked-out windows. British singer-songwriter Noel Gallagher was also reported to be attending the ceremony, as well as Brand’s close friend Jonathan Ross.
Forbes Magazine reports that the the wedding venue was lit with lamps, colorful lights illuminated the trees and flower garlands festooned the luxury tents at the resort. Both Brand and Perry wore traditional Indian clothes to the wedding: Perry donned a sari, as did a number of other female guests at the ceremony. On Friday, at a prenuptial celebration, Perry, like a typical Indian bride, had henna (mehndi) designs applied on her palms and hands.
