Dallas based J.C. Penney is opening an IT office in Bangalore, India, as it restructures that critical department. The 130,000 square feet technology center will focus on analytics, innovation and reporting capabilities, Joey Thomas, a spokesman for Penney, said. The company is hiring full-time IT engineers and analytics professionals for the new office in India as well as its headquarters in Plano, Texas.
Penney will hire 450 people by the end of this year for the Bangalore operation and that number could rise to 1,000 in a few years, reports The Dallas Morning News. Having fallen behind on its e-commerce business, CEO Marvin Ellison is building up the company’s online capabilities.
