McLean, VA-based Intelsat, that operates integrated satellite and terrestrial networks and provides inflight connectivity (IFC), announced the launch of their services in India through an agreement with Nelco, a part of the $128 bn Tata Group, a Satellite Communication Service Provider in India.
Intelsat’s airline partners and flyers will now be able to access broadband coverage on domestic and international aircraft flying to or from an Indian airport, as well as aircraft flying over the country.
Jeff Sare, president of Commercial Aviation at Intelsat, said, “This is a fast-growing airline market, and there is considerable untapped potential for IFC growth.”
Nelco has offered the Aero IFC services for more than two years with plans to introduce these services to more airlines in collaboration with its global partners. The company will provide these services using Intelsat’s IS-33e high throughput satellite. IS-33e which was launched in 2016 provides C and Ku-band connectivity to parts of Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and is approved by Indian government regulators, paving the way for coverage with no interruptions or blackout zones.
