Navi Mumbai based Reliance Infrastructure-controlled Reliance Naval and Engineering signed a master ship repair agreement with the U.S. Navy. In January this year, the Reliance Shipyard at Pipavav in the western state of Gujarat was qualified by the U.S. Navy to perform complex repair and alternation services for its Seventh Fleet vessels operating in the region.

The Indian shipyard is likely to handle various types of ships — front line warships, supply vessels, and patrol vessels — that are part of the Seventh Fleet. Currently, the U.S. Navy uses yards in Singapore and Japan for this work.
